CareChain is supported by applying a service fee on each completed health care service using CareChain. CareChain fees vary by service and are calculated as a percentage of the fee paid by the patient (or another payor).

Specific information about CareChain fees is available through your account. You may determine which health care services, if any, are provided using CareChain. You will be informed of CareChain fees before deciding to offer a health care service.

As an independent health care provider using CareChain, you determine which health care services are provided using CareChain, the locations from which such health care services are provided, and when and for how long such health care services are offered through CareChain. You have complete discretion to engage in activities or other business or employment endeavors.

Acupuncturists will receive patient appointment bookings through CareChain.

Only physiotherapists offering specialty assessment and triage services using CareChain’s NEURO-MSK AI SUPPORT MODULE will be permitted to refer patients to specialists when indicated.

CareChain supports two types of custodians of patient records: health care providers and partners (e.g., healthcare institutions) .

As a health care provider, you remain the custodian of patient records connected to any health care services provided using CareChain, unless you are providing health care services from a practice location operated by a health care partner. In such cases, the health care partner will be the custodian of patient records connected to the health care services.

Please submit the registration form. A CareChain representative will be in contact with you with next steps.

PATIENTS FAQ

Acupuncturists (or acupuncture practitioners) are healthcare professionals who use stimulation techniques to treat and prevent various ailments, including musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. These techniques may involve pressure, heat, electric current, and inserting fine sterile needles into specific points of the body (acupuncture). Acupuncturists work in private practice, multidisciplinary treatment clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare settings.

In Canada, the requirements to become an acupuncturist vary from province to province. In British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, and Newfoundland, acupuncture is a regulated profession, and the “Acupuncturist” title is protected. In general, provincial Regulatory Colleges require that acupuncturists have taken approved acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine (TCMP) study program(s) and passed various exams that assess theoretical, practical, safety, and ethical considerations. Further, acupuncturists would be expected to have completed a certain number of hours of practice (e.g., 500 hours) before applying to register. After successfully completing this process, acupuncturists may obtain a designation – for example, registered traditional Chinese medicine practitioner (R.TCMP) or registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac).

Acupuncturists use stimulation techniques to treat many conditions, including back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, osteoarthritis, and more. However, the exact mechanisms behind acupuncture are not yet fully understood. Within traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is believed to re-balance energy – also known as chi or Qi – by restoring flow along the channels (meridians) of the body. Many Western acupuncturists describe acupuncture as a technique that stimulates nerves of the skin to promote blood circulation and release our body’s natural painkillers (endorphins).

You should consider seeing an acupuncturist if you are experiencing acute or chronic pain as a result of neck, back, shoulder, knee, or hip problems. If you are experiencing a new physical pain, your condition should be immediately assessed by a doctor and/or physiotherapist. After establishing a diagnosis and care plan, consider booking a session with an acupuncturist to explore whether implementing a complementary treatment strategy is right for you.

During your first session, the acupuncturist will access your information on CareChain and ask you questions to confirm your current symptoms, mental health, medical history, and treatment goals. They will also conduct a physical examination, which will include taking your pulse on both wrists and examining your tongue’s appearance. You will be asked to lie down on a table, and you may be asked to remove or lift pieces of clothing in order for your acupuncturist to insert sterile needles or apply other stimulation techniques to various points on your body. Due to the thinness of acupuncture needles, the majority of patients report little to no discomfort throughout the procedure. Everyone’s first session is unique as the acupuncturist will target different points on the body depending on the treatment goals. Following this, the acupuncturist will likely suggest weekly treatments until your condition improves.
